Tory Gays F-off, says Warwick Pride President Ky Andrea Hall, amid disassociation from regional Pride group

Outgoing President of Warwick Pride, Mx Ky Andrea Hall has come under fire for grossly insensitive and problematic comments. This was particularly concerning, as Ky is also an elected member of the Warwick SU Welfare Exec.

Last week, in tweets now deleted, Ky Andrea Hall asked 'Why are old right wing gays here? Tory gay fuck off??'.

In other comments, Ky tweeted, 'Can straight people keep their fake tokenistic ""support"" for us pls xoxo Tory gays go home'.

The irony of Warwick Pride being an organisation "commited to providing a safe supportive and friendly atmosphere" as defined in their constitution and their President's comments, were not missed - and have since been reported on national media, first reported by the Tab.

In the light of news this week that national athelete Tom Daley is expecting a child with his partner Dustin Black, whilst Leader of the Conservative Scottish Shadow Cabinet, Ruth Davidson is also expecting a child with her partner, Jen Wilson, the views expressed by Ky Andrea are offensive to say the least.

Following this sad affair, the county organisation Warwickshire Pride issued a public statement on Twitter, responding to the local MP Matt Western, Warwick SU, the Warwick Tories and LGBT+ Conservatives and disassociating the organisation from Warwick Pride - Warwick Student Union's own society.

Clarification from Warwickshire Pride

"As a Pride charity we oppose any kind of intimidation or discrimination. We are a fully inclusive organisation that organises a Pride festival for the whole LGBT+ spectrum and allies. Warwick Pride is a university society and not currently associated with our charity."

In response to these revelations, the University of Warwick Conservative Association told The Tab: "We condemn the comments that the individuals have made, and LGBT+ members of our society are hurt and outraged by the comments seen.

Universities are great places where students should feel confident to be and act how they wish, and these comments by certain individuals contradict this."

Update: Within days of the controversy, Ky's Twitter is now private, and the position of Warwick Pride President has been removed.

The Eye wonders whether it is appropriate for Warwick Pride to be led by an individual with such views - Warwick Pride (the SU Society) have been approached for comment.

Mx Ky Andrea Hall has also been approached to make any further comments or apologise for any offence caused - there has not yet been a response.

Finally, Warwick Students Union has been approached, we expect the Union may wish clarify whether it wishes to endorse or condemn the views expressed by Ky, President of a SU-funded society that claims to "run according to Union regulations" in its Constitution?
